Astoria Park Beach, Queens

Back to Map

There are two landings here on the east bank of the East River, north of the Triboro Bridge and south of the Hell Gate railroad bridge. The southernmost is a steep gravel beach, good at low tide. Short of standing on your partner's shoulders, however, there's no obvious way to get up to the promenade.

Two hundred yards north is a good hightide landing, a rocky outcropping with sandy pockets and some nice shade trees. An old pallet hung from a chain serves as a ladder to the promenade. A terrific view of Manhattan is framed by the Triboro Bridge.
