There are two landings here on the east bank of the East River, north of the Triboro Bridge and south of the Hell Gate railroad bridge. The southernmost is a steep gravel beach, good at low tide. Short of standing on your partner's shoulders, however, there's no obvious way to get up to the promenade. Two hundred yards north is a good hightide landing, a rocky outcropping with sandy pockets and some nice shade trees. An old pallet hung from a chain serves as a ladder to the promenade. A terrific view of Manhattan is framed by the Triboro Bridge. Know more about this beach? Email us at info@newyorkharborbeaches.org |
