Dumbo Cove, Brooklyn

There are three or four landings here in the ˇ§interbridgeˇ¨ section of Brooklyn Bridge Park. The best of them is a sandy nook at the northern end of the crescent beach, now mostly covered over with rip-rap, that runs south from the end of TK street. Unfortunately, it lies just inside the boundaries of Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park, where there seems to be a fairly strict no-boat landing policy.

The most obvious landing is the rock beach with amphitheater=style benches that lies just to the north. It's in the city-administered section of the park, where the attitude seems to be a little more relaxed--at any rate, no one is around to say no. It's not the best beach for small boats, thoughˇXthe rocks are too big and jagged, and other, submerged rocks make landing tricky, especially at low tide.

For the moment, then, the best options are around the corner to the north, just under the Manhattan Bridge. There's a backwater thereˇXbeware swirling currents and the peak of the ebb and the floodˇXand at least two good, sandy pullouts.
