This is a little low-tide beach on the east side of Governors Island on Buttermilk Channel, just opposite the new cruise line docks in Red Hook. It would not be a good place to leave your boat while touring the island because wakes from passing boats could do it serious damage. But with the addition of a few amenities--an aluminum ladder strapped to the fence on the sea wall, a davit or hoist, or, ideally, some steps cut through the sea wall into the parking lot behind--it could become a very useful access point, and a good alternative to the human-powered boat dock further north at Pier 101.
